{sixteen going on seventeen}

like the good little homeschool girl that i was, i grew up with a dream. and that was to one day be liesl from "the sound of music". if you have even a scrap of dignity in you, then you'll admit that you used to watch this scene, get warm little butterflies floating in your stomach, and dream of the day that you could wear a powdery pink dress and dance on benches with a cute singing boy.

when i saw this dress on the rack at shareen vintage in nyc, my heart stopped. because i knew that once i tried that dress on, i could at least pretend that my childhood dream was coming true. i could become liesl for just a brief amount of time and spin around with my puffy pink sleeves, making all the rosy-cheeked boys burst into song.

i got some stares on the street, though. apparently not everyone finds puffed sleeves and button-up backs appealing these days. shame on them.

  1. I have to admit that I never really liked that scene. *sheepish grin* And I got so annoyed when I was sixteen and people kept referencing that. :-P I just hate how controlling Raulf is. I can take care of myself very well thankyouverymuch! Lol! I guess I'm just more of a Lizzie Bennet or Anne Shirley than Liesl. ;D

    This dress is gorgeous, though! You look so pretty in it, and these photos are perfect! <3

    1. Oh, I was Lizzie and Anne, too. Any romantic character who wore pretty dresses was well worth my dreams... ;)

    2. Haha I loved that scene but I still hated Raulf. Mostly because of the ending. Every single time I watch that movie I feel like strangling him. You don't abandon the woman you love to go to war! On the opposite side as her family! Aghck.

  2. I love love love the dress. Like Beautifully Pure, the dancing scene has never been my favorite, but Liesl always seemed so old and mature ... it's funny to think that I'm sixteen now and "don't need a governess" ;)

    1. And I'm now seventeen, which practically makes me an old maid! ;)

  3. People weren't staring because they thought it unfashionable. They were staring because they were totally jealous of your fabulous vintage style. And wishing they'd bought it first.

    1. Oh, of course! Why didn't I think of that? ;)

  5. Actually, against what everyone else said, I kind of liked the dancing scene. :) I absolutely loooove Liesl's dress in it and all the pretty landscape made up for horrid Raulf - he wasn't even that handsome. He had YELLOW hair. Yellow hair is very different than blonde.

    I love the dress. I love the photoshoot. I'm going to do this one day - though that all accounts on getting the right dress... :)
